Jakub Bursa’s Bohemian Folk Baroque
Jakub Bursa, a builder and regional personality (born in Dolní Nakvasovice in 1813, died in Vlachovo Březí in 1884), was mainly famous for his artistic gables in the facades and gates of village houses typical and characteristic for this region. You can see his work mainly in Vlachovo Březí, Volyně and Prachatice. The original inscriptions and motives with religious themes are the unique features of Bursa’s gable decoration. House no. 6 – U Dudáků in Libotyně or farm no. 4 in Jiřetice are one of the interesting ones.
Master Jan Hus (1369/1370 Husinec – 6 July 1415 in Kostnice), a Roman Catholic priest, Czech medieval religious thinker, great reformer and preacher. You can visit the exposition at the Hus’s family house, a national cultural monument, where there are documents related to his life, studies, teachings, work and legacy. Every year on the 6 of July, Hus’s legacy is remembered at the Husinec traditional fair with a rich spiritual and cultural programme.
